Where it all began

Hey, we’re the Long family - Meilani, Jonny and our two kiddos. We are spending the summer road tripping across the United State in our custom-built Sprinter van, chasing both memories and meaningful work.

Nearly ten years ago, overwhelmed by a culture of excess and exhausted with the work necessary to keep up, we were drawn to the tiny movement. With less stuff and looser ties to a location, perhaps we would have more opportunities to explore, spend time in nature, and connect with people we love. We longed to downsize and live in a van, a lifestyle that didn’t seem too crazy or out of reach, since one of our best friends, Shaun, was doing just that. Ultimately a work opportunity got in the way of those plans, and we instead moved to Toronto, Canada. Our downtown condo was tiny, and we came to love the city, but we never forgot those van life dreams.

Fast forward to now. We’ve been back in the Pacific Northwest for five years and we’re now a family of four. With Shaun’s help (check out his company Switch Wagons) we now have our dream van and we’re ready to blend our family life with the creative work we love. As photographers drawn to storytelling, now we’re doing it on the move — capturing real moments, beautiful places, and everyday magic as we go. We can’t wait to experience the unique culture of different regions, meet new friends, and produce photo shoots that show the diverse experiences of everyday Americans.

This blog will hopefully tell the story beyond our professional work: how we live on the road, who we meet along the way, and family moments we don’t want to ever forget. We believe life’s best snapshots happen somewhere between here and there.
