Bend, Oregon
This morning we did laundry at Kipp’s house, and I cleaned and repacked the van while Jonny got some work done. Getting the van ready to go took quite a bit longer than anticipated, so we got going on the day much later than planned.
After saying goodbye to Kipp we ran some errands at Goodwill (some shirts for me and “Ramona and Beezus” for Xiomara) and REI (America the Beautiful Pass and a replacement for our malfunctioning French press). While driving around Bend we passed the last Blockbuster video rental location.
In the late afternoon we hiked the Trail of the Molten Land at Newberry National Volcanic Monument. If we had more time, it would have been fun to hike to the top of Lava Butte Cinder Cone. Thankfully Bend isn’t too far from home so we can easily come back another time.
Before hitting the road we stopped at Costco to fill up on fuel and pick up some fruit (plus ~$100 worth of other things we found along the way. Does this happen to everyone else too?). We couldn’t pass up the convenience of food court pizza for dinner.
We drove 4.5 hours today from Bend, Oregon to Fruitland, Idaho. We stopped about halfway for a bathroom break at Sage Hen Rest Area along US-20.
